Custom Framing in BethesdaMacco of Bethesda is a privately-owned studio workshop specializing in archival custom framing and offering a range of specialized, hands-on options rarely available from most commercial framing businesses. We still do things the old fashioned way including joining mitred frame corners with dowels, biscuits, glue and/or nails, hand-cut mats with a Dexter cutter, hand-watercolour French panels and lines with optional gilded and marbled decorated strips. We mount textiles/fabric art by hand-sewing to cotton backing. We can alter frame profiles and finishes by painting, staining or retouching. Missing ornaments can be recast, recarved and re-gilded. We can also work within your budget to frame just about anything be it the kids’ third grade drawings, a favorite calendar print, all those antique photos you’ve had stored in the back of your underwear drawer for years, and, of course, fine original art, prints and paintings. We have a pretty good in-house inventory of length mouldings, some of which have been in our storage for forty years, as well as hundreds of samples which can be ordered in a mere day or two. We’ve been at this for a while - since 1949 - and can provide references from half a century’s worth of satisfied customers. Consultations are by appointment only which can be scheduled from 2 p.m. to late evenings, seven days a week. All work is done personally and in-house by the owner, Barbara Rubin. Macco is located two blocks behind the Farm Women’s Flea Market in downtown Bethesda. Telephone 240-401-1613 email: barbaron2001@yahoo.com
